“Ugly Foods" Contest

Ever wonder why your tomatoes or apples look and feel waxy? Why some foods look a bit too perfect than the ones you grow in your garden? What if I told you that grocery stores and supermarkets are only selling the fruit and veggies they think are VISUALLY APPEALING and THROWING OUT the "UGLY" ones? THANKFULLY there are THREE COMPANIES that all about preventing food from going to WASTE. And I've tried all of them!

I’m big on sustainability, being conscious and acting on what I know about how and where food comes from. And NO it’s NOT about being boujee, you can actually find cheap options out there to do your part and help save the planet by what YOU EAT. This is how it works: you get a box full of random or not-random produce (fruits/veggies/roots) that restaurants would throw out because they are not aesthetically “GOOD ENOUGH” and get it delivered directly to your door! Here’s the process that I’ve experienced:

  • Sign Up—for a recycled food delivery company. I’m reviewing (Misfit Market, Imperfect Foods, and Hungry Harvest). There are ALOT of promo codes out there my people DON’T MISS OUT (see my referral code below)

  • Pick a size box—the smaller the cheaper but if you love snacking on fresh food or are VEGAN/VEGETARIAN go with the biggest option, trust me.

  • Choose or don’t choose your food—the company will give you 1-3days to pick out the options for what you want in your box from what could’ve been wasted but is completely edible and healthy! Are they UGLY? NOOO! You might get a TWO-HEADED STRAWBERRY or a SMALLER, SKINNIER CARROT like the pic, but there is nothing wrong with it! If you don’t pick out your foods or forget, they’ll give you random fruits/veggies which is fun!

Once you do all that you’ll get it delivered to your door. Now check out my reviews and CONTEST WINNER for all three amazing companies.

Misfit Market—ALL ORGANIC PRODUCE & NON-GMO and they also offer you to add pantry items and have vegan options! So.....the first time I ordered from them, they messed it up. I ordered it for my brother to try and it never got delivered and I was still CHARGED. When I saw this I for sure thought it was a scam....BUT after I reached out to the customer service email they refunded the full amount and said there was an error in the delivery. I believe in SECOND CHANCES so I tried them again and a few more times, and my food arrived...LATER than the scheduled day..I really wasn’t about it and bc it was the same price as Imperfect foods, I expected better. For their BIGGEST BOX at $40.00 (with shipping included) you will get 12 veggies and 2 fruits. They deliver to big and smaller cities in DC, FL, MD, NY, & ALOTTTT MORE!

Imperfect Foods—ORGANIC/CONVENTIONAL (not organic) produce. My first impression was that there was more of a balance of fruits and veggies and I felt like the food was very FRESH. They had a promotion for free delivery and 25% off so my first few boxes were pretty CHEAP! They deliver to mostly big cities but they are EXPANDING to some southern & Midwest states like AZ, OH.

Did I mention they are really ON TOP OF IT when it comes to delivering your food, they'll text you many messages when they are on the way and close to your location and when they drop-off your box! Misfit only sends an email..

Quick Tip/Hack—if you spend $55-$60 or more there is no delivery fee! Wayy more pricey than Misfit Foods if you get organic options, but I personally learned that I do like the taste of some foods more when they are ORGANIC like my grapes. FOR REAL tho, eating more organic food made me feel a bit different, my face was as smooth as ever! If you eat alot of plants, buy the conventional box for a cheaper total!! I have ordered a medium, large and EXTRA LARGE box. As you know I eat 100% plant-based and the past few months I've been straying away from packaged foods to MORE FRESH produce...which means a lot of HOME-MADE RECIPES! I'm even making my own sauces/juices (see blog post). That means I need that extra large box but with everything else I eat it does last me 2 FULL WEEKS.

Hungry Harvest—is the cheapest way to go, but I did not have a good experience...I'm not sure if it was because the food was sitting out for 2 days in a delivery room but there were LIVE BUGS and I'm not about that at all...I ended up having to dispose of it all bc I was not comfortable with even trying to wash it all down. I will be giving them another try soon....stay tuned.. is next to try...AGAIN

Imperfect vs Misfit Market- I felt like I got more food from Imperfect, but I actually sat down and did the math. The last Imperfect box I ordered was a conventional (non-organic) EXTRA LARGE box with 23 DIFFERENT COMBINATIONS of PRODUCE at $46 plus a $4.99 shipping fee. I also tried their LARGE box with 10 PRODUCE COMBOS at $32 total including shipping. Misfit Market gave me 14 COMBINATIONS for their LARGEST BOX for $35 plus $5.50 shipping but I also added some more stuff so I had 18 items for a TOTAL of $53.

I will say that even though both companies allow you to add extra stuff to the box (they charge extra) Imperfect Foods includes more fruits in the box than Misfit Market. Imperfect Foods also has a really cool option to pick foods you never want ordered in your box! This is perfect to people with allergies or vegans/vegetarians who don't want a cruel surprise! Remember Misfit has ALOT of places they deliver and it is ALL ORGANIC & NON-GMO which is a huge advantage. I don't have a favorite yet, but when it comes down to the money I'm going with Imperfect!

Let me know in the comments if you agree or if I missed any companies! is the cheapest way to go but I did not have a good experience...I'm not sure if it was because the food was sitting out for 2 days in a delivery room but there were LIVE BUGS and I'm not about that at all...I ended up having to dispose of it all bc I was not comfortable with even trying to wash it all down.
