WHAT IS GELATIN?

What is really inside marshmallows, mints and candy?

Now this ish is #CRAZYYYY.

Still new into my #veganlife I kept hearing people talk about gelatin.....like what even. I am usually good at reading nutrition labels (health freak remember?) but I did not know what gelatin was. At some point a friend and someone else told me they heard it was pig fat. I thought they were just trying to gross me out because I would go to the store with them and they questioned why I was even buying gummy bears.

So, very much later I started to pay attention to what things had gelatin in them. Not a lot of things but enough to make me finally want to look it up. So IT IS TRUE. Products like some gummy candies, mints, marshmallows, pudding and of course JELLO. All contain crushed bones usually from FISH or PIGS.

These companies basically crush animal bones. Put the bones through another process to thicken. Add them to foods to give a TEXTURE appearance.

The sad part is that it is approved by the Food and Drug Administration and United States Department of agriculture--which is where I got my info from: https://www.ams.usda.gov/sites/default/files/media/Gelatin%20Fish%20TR%20Review.pdf

Ever since I found that out #byebye gelatin for me.

When did you first find out about gelatin? Comment below!
